Company “Russian Marikultura” has released 1.4 million young scallops into the sea

The Company ‘Russian Mariculture’ (part of the Corporate Group ‘Antey’) has released almost 1.4 million young scallops in the water area of Russky Island.

The Company’s specialists released almost 1.4 million individuals of viable young scallops – one year old – into two fish-breeding sites in the Voevoda Bay of Russky Island. Juveniles were bred naturally, collecting settled fish larvae on collectors that are located in coastal waters.

At the beginning of last summer, a total of 30,000 collectors were installed to collect spat – the settled fish larvae of bivalve molluscs. In autumn, selecting, sorting and transplanting scallops into cages were carried out.

Before the release of juveniles, the cages had been lifted and transported to the place of further release of the scallops. On the shore, juveniles were counted, weighed and recorded.

According to the Company, due to the high viability of the juveniles bred, about 50% of individuals will survive into mature adult, which will be able to give birth to a new generation of mollusks in natural conditions.
