Schoolchildren immersed in the world of marine fishing
Murmansk schoolchildren got a unique opportunity to visit a real crab fishing vessel of the Antey Sever company. The crew warmly welcomed the children and gave them an educational tour, revealing the secrets of difficult marine professions.
The children got acquainted with navigation equipment. They were told how sailors navigate the vast expanses of the sea and find rich crab spots.
Then the children learned about the intricacies of the crab fishing industry. They were explained how crab traps are arranged and what “orders” are – a certain sequence of actions when working with them.
Particular attention was paid to the role of each crew member. The children learned that well-coordinated teamwork is important on the vessel, where everyone performs their task, ensuring a successful fishery.
The children looked with interest at the refrigeration units, where freshly caught crab is stored until arrival at the port. They were shown the hold and a real crab factory located right on board the ship.
Then the schoolchildren were told about the fishing process: from catching crab to processing and freezing it. They learned about the strict requirements for product quality and how crab is selected at the factory.
At the end of the excursion, the children were told about life at sea and how important this profession is for the region’s economy. The excursion will certainly help them better understand the world around them and, perhaps, inspire someone to choose a future profession.
The excursion was organized as part of the preparation for the Unified Open Day of the FP “Professionality”, of which “Antey Sever” is a participant together with the MAU. MMRK named after I.I. Mesyatsev
