Restoring the king crab population in Primorye

Together with scientists from the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, they released more than 30,000 king crab fry into the waters of Peter the Great Bay.

The crab was grown at the Zapad Marine Biological Station. The weight of one individual is only 0.007-0.010 grams, and in a few years one such crab will reach a weight of 2-3 kilograms.

This project is aimed at restoring the red king crab population in the Sea of Japan. At the bottom of each marine testing ground, special hydrobiotechnical structures are installed to create the most comfortable conditions for the survival of juveniles.

Despite the fact that we do not fish for crab here, our common goal is to maintain and develop the ecosystem in Primorye. By the way, this is not the first joint experiment with scientists: last year we released 10,000 king crab fry here.
