The main habitat of the blue king crab is the Sea of Okhotsk and the Bering Sea. Its size is similar to the king crab and golden king crab. There are large sapphire-colored spots on the lateral surfaces of the carapace, therefore, the species is called so.

In winter, the crab goes to a depth of up to 300 m, where the temperature is more comfortable for it. A live crab is quite sensitive to transportation: it is necessary to control the conditions of transportation carefully in order to prevent its death.

The meat of blue king crab is rich in biologically active substances, amino acids (which are more than in fish, by the way), vitamins, microelements and macroelements. Most of all, crab meat contains iodine and B vitamins, as well as calcium and magnesium. In addition, it is an excellent antioxidant.
